Some see the Gateway Arch as a monument to Thomas Jefferson and westward expansion. But for many of us, the Arch is St Louis, our imperfect home.
We celebrate there, but we also come to the Arch to debate who we are, what we believe in, and what we want our city to be. From its origins in the Great Depression to the present-day renovation, the Arch tells the story of St. Louis.
