A Proud History
A Proud History

Since the 1970s, the St. Louis LGBTQIA community has organized rallies and marches, now commonly known as Pride events. Learn about the origins of Pride celebrations in the metro region and their lasting cultural and political effects.

Jayms Andris opens the program with a brief history of pride before 1980, followed by a panel of representatives from Metro East Pride of Southwestern Illinois, Pride St. Charles, Pride St. Louis, St. Louis Black Pride, and Tower Grove Pride, who will share the historical backgrounds of their respective festivals and comment on why these events are needed.

Presented in collaboration with the St. Louis LGBT History Project.
